HOMELAND AND LOVE

If I had the power to change the past, I would,
because today's thinks would have been better for you and for me,
if at that time some of us were a little less "patriots" than they assumed to be.
If I had the power I would have taken you
in a forgotten and misunderstood era,
in a lovely and inaccessible place,
where the soldiers of 215 battalion
were living in the scenery of Kirenia and Pentadaktilos
as if they were living the tragedy of the whole country.
In this scenery the prologue of the whole country's tragedy develops,
Where a bootless battalion of tired soldiers and some Greek officers,
Victims and sacrificers, compose a scene full of pictures and movement.
From the peace the action jigs up,
from the wrecked morale the human kindness spurts
and from the concealed patriotism the treachery emerges.
Although in the depth of the soul the hatred and the greediness fight,
there is always a peaceful moment, there is the flowering and the triumph of love.
If I had the power to go back in time, then I will first of all change the God.
If I only had the strength to take you with me in Kirenia,
I will first show you the Kirenia shipwreck
and then I would sit for hours to hear you cry.
If I had the strength I would have travel in the past
I would get you in the pages of this book,
to walk bootless together to Pentadaktylos,
to hear the agony of the pine, the rock's complaint
and from my guardhouse in Prophet Elias, I would tell you a prophecy.
If I could I would have had another vision for my country,
That is for you and me.
If I only could….
